SPEED METAL PARTY RETURNS: SPANISH THRASH METAL POWERHOUSE ANGELUS APATRIDA AND GERMAN SPEED METAL PIONEER LIVING DEATH TAKE THE STAGE
Finland’s most famous speed and thrash metal event, Speed Metal Party, will once again be held at Tampere’s Tavara-asema.
Launched in 1988, Speed Metal Party was one of Finland’s first underground events dedicated entirely to speed and thrash metal. Organized in the spirit of the original, the event continues Tampere’s metal tradition by bringing both international acts and local artists to the stage.
The headliner for the evening is the Spanish band Angelus Apatrida, considered one of Europe’s hardest-hitting contemporary thrash bands. Founded in Albacete in 2000, the four-piece band is known for its uncompromising attitude: they have eight studio albums and over 750 shows around the world under their belt. The band’s 2021 self-titled album topped the official Spanish charts, and their latest release, Aftermath (2023), has received rave reviews worldwide. Angelus Apatrida will make their long-awaited return to Finnish stages at the event.
Joining the Spanish powerhouse on stage will be a highly anticipated guest: German speed metal pioneers Living Death, who will perform at Tavara-asema as part of their first-ever tour of Finland. Founded in Velbert in 1980, the band helped lay the foundations of the German speed and thrash scene long before the genre achieved mainstream popularity. Having wowed audiences with their sold-out comeback tour earlier in 2026, the veteran band brings to Tampere the legendary brothers Reiner and Dieter Kelch, along with singer Thorsten “Toto” Bergmann, the raw and uncompromising ’80s sound that fans have been waiting for for decades.
As usual, the event will be hosted by Tampere’s own thrash heavyweights, Prestige and Dethrone. Both bands have been around since the late 1980s and are among the event’s original founders. Prestige, performing on their home turf, is expected to release new material very soon, and Dethrone will take the stage with an updated lineup.
Belgian band Objector brings international recognition to the lineup. Formed in 2013, the band is known for its aggressive and straightforward thrash metal, which combines the genre’s traditions with modern intensity. The band has garnered attention particularly for its energetic live performances at clubs and festivals across Central Europe. The most special moment of the evening will come when the Turku-based underground cult band Catalepsy takes the stage. This will be the band’s first performance in over three decades, making the evening a must-see for anyone familiar with the history of Finnish metal.
