A new series of queer events comes to Tampere – [KVÄÄR] invites you to celebrate at Tavara-asema for the first time in May!

A fun, quirky, and sex-positive nightclub kicks off the pre-party for Manse Pride week in June and expands into a larger event. [KVÄÄR]’s artistic director, Emmi Nuorgam, aims to create more safe spaces for queer individuals in Tampere.

In May, a new star will be born in Tampere’s queer sky. The queer-themed [KVÄÄR] invites you to celebrate LGBTQ+ culture and people at Tavara-asema on Wednesday, May 8th – even from afar! This nightclub marks the beginning of a new series of queer events. The idea for the whole concept arose from the lack of similar high-quality events in the city.

“Tampere needs more spaces where one can be unapologetically queer. We deserve more experiences on our own terms, from queer people to queer people. My dream is to bring a little taste of Berlin to Tampere so that we don’t have to go elsewhere to party anymore”, says [KVÄÄR]’s Artistic Director, Emmi Nuorgam.

Towards a safer nightclub culture

The quirky, sexy, and stylish [KVÄÄR] brings iconic hits and new bangers to the dance floor of Tavara-asema. The music will be played by DJ Renaz, who actively works towards a safer club culture and is known for her work in various fields. Drag kings Kiukkupussy and Narri Koira will also take the stage during the evening.

The creative event series is a new opening for the entire queer scene in Finland. The idea is to create memorable experiences and to bring more safe nightclubs to Tampere’s party culture.

“[KVÄÄR], like other events at Tavara-asema, follows the principles of a safer space, and there is a harassment contact person present. There will also be “Gig Buddy” activity at the party, meaning you can ask for a companion through our new service if you don’t want to party alone”, suggests Lotta Ahtinen, Production Manager of Tampereen Kulttuurikamari, who also works as a harassment contact person herself.

Those seeking a companion for the [KVÄÄR] nightclub can contact us in advance via the form or come to meet others with similar interests at the event’s “Gig Buddy” stand.

Continuation of the event is also promised

[KVÄÄR] kicks off the pre-party for Manse Pride week, celebrated from June 10th to 16th, with Tampereen Kulttuurikamari as an official partner. On Thursday, June 13th, [KVÄÄR] celebration expands from the nightclub to an evening-long experience: during the day, there will be a free event at Tavara-asema inviting everyone to enjoy discussions and other creative programming, and the summer day culminates on the dance floor of Tavara-asema with [KVÄÄR] nightclub. More is promised for the autumn of 2024.

“We hope that [KVÄÄR] will inspire not only queer individuals but also everyone interested in inclusive and safe club culture to come to Tampere from all over Finland. At the heart of the events are sense of community and diverse programming. We are eager to hear any wishes and ideas related to them”, says Kristiina Paananen, Marketing and Sales Manager of Tampereen Kulttuurikamari.

“During Manse Pride week, [KVÄÄR] will offer more than just parties, and the program planning is already underway. We want to provide a platform for various forms of queer culture, such as stage poetry, tarot readings, and kink”, says Artistic Director Emmi Nuorgam.

Tickets for the [KVÄÄR] nightclub, which kicks off the event series on May 8th, will go on sale on Tuesday, March 26th, starting at 10 AM. Tickets will be available via Tiketti. The nightclub has an age limit of 18+. [KVÄÄR] events are open to all friends of LGBTQ+ culture.
