Please note the traffic exceptions and changed routes when you arrive at Tavara-asema.
Updated 25.6.2025
The area around Tampere railway station is developing and the construction works related to the project will change the access routes around Tavara-asema.
- The Railway stations tunnel, the underpass at Itsenäisyydenkatu and the Erkkilä bridge are closed to all traffic except for the tramway until 11 August.
- We recommend arriving at the Tavara-asema via the underpass at Rongankatu or Itsenäisyydenkatu.
- Please allow enough time to arrive
- We recommend that you follow the communication of the City of Tampere and the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency on their websites.
the Finnish Transport Infrastructure Agency also has a dedicated Facebook page for the project, where updates on the progress of the project will be posted.
Arrival and Parking
We recommend coming to Tavara-asema by foot, bike, or public transport.
Light Transport
- On foot
We recommend arriving at the Tavara-asema via Rongankatu and its underpass or via Itsenäisyydenkatu and, if necessary, the travel centre tunnel (open 24 hours a day, occasionally congested). The Itsenäisyydenkatu underpass and the station tunnel inside the railway station, as well as the Erkkilä bridge, are closed until 11 August. Ratapihankatu is also passable between Tulli and Tammela, but has moved to a narrower route to the railway area
- By bike or electric scooter
The newly renovated Rongankatu underpass tunnel is recommended for those coming from the west and Itsenäisyydenkatu for those coming from the east. The Erkkilä Bridge and the Itsenäisyydenkatu underpass are closed. Ratapihankatu is also passable between Tulli and Tammela, but has moved to a narrowed detour route to the railway area.
Public Transport
- Local busses
Tavara-asema is located along good public transport connections. The nearest bus stops are on Itsenäisyydenkatu, Rautatienkatu and Hämeenkatu. The nearest tram stops are at Tulli and Rautatieasema. For exact timetables and routes, visit www.nysse.fi or use the Nysse Mobile app.
- Tram transport
The tram will run normally through the Itsenäisyydenkatu underpass despite the construction work. Access to the railway station and trains is normal from Hämeenkatu and from the Tulli stop via a detour through the travel centre tunnel. The nearest tram stops are at Tulli and Rautatieasema. As with the buses, you can find the routes and timetables of the tram on the Nysse website.
- Bus travel
Tavara-asema is located about a kilometer away from Tampere Bus Station.
- Train travel
Tavara-asema is located near of Tampere railway station. Train services are currently operating normally despite the works, only the car train station will remain closed until 13.12.2025. For more information on timetables, please visit VR’s website. From the railway station, Tavara-asema can be reached either directly from the platform in the direction of Rongankatu, from in front of the station via the Hämeenkatu and Rongankatu underpass and via the station tunnel to Itsenäisyydenkatu or the narrowed access road to Ratapihankatu. Normal access to the railway station from Hämeenkatu and from Tammela and Tulli via the travel centre tunnel.
Air travel
Tampere-Pirkkala Airport is located in Pirkkala, approximately 17 kilometers from Tampere Center. The local bus number 103 services the route between the airport and Tampere Centre. For more information, see here.
Parking
We recommend coming to Tavara-asema by foot, bike, or public transport. For guests traveling by car, there are several parking garages located near Tavara-asema, such as P-Hämppi and P-Tullintori.
An accessible drop-off and pick-up traffic is directed via Murtokatu.
